The Lesson as Part of a Sequence:

This is the fith lesson in the sequence. It builds on the last few lessons as it is a whole class rather than a group or individual activity. In this lesson the class will discuss the different mark making techniques they can use to enhance their drawing. Afterwards, the teacher will set children the task of planning a simple drawing paired with a text about an area of their learning in one of their current topics. The children can choose which tool and mark making technique they use to do their drawing and can incorporate words, phrases, diagrams, etc. in their drawing. Once the children have planned their picture, they can begin to put together their ideas onto the large display board whilst ensuring that blank spaces are well covered. To consolidate this activity, the class can discuss the different mark making techniques their peers have used, and discuss the similartities and differences between their class piece and Basquiat's work.

It is important to note that, children who might struggle to participate in the drawing activity can use computers/iPads to do their pictures which can then be printed and stuck onto the board. Children with EAL, on the other hand, can create text relevant to the topic in their mother tongue.
